How did your journey into history begin?
It began with martial arts and then historical fencing. When I took it up in 1994, I had no idea it would become a lifelong passion. It was fencing that led me to the theatre, street performances and presenting, and gradually opened the door to the world of historical programmes.
And how did you get into dance?
Thanks to Eliška. Historical dance opened up another way for me to tell stories. Today it’s a natural part of our programmes, even though my heart belongs most to theatre.
What do you enjoy most about performing?
I love theatre programmes, stilt-walking performances and evening fire shows the most. That’s where the most powerful moments happen, when the story, the lighting, the music and the audience all come together.
Where does the nickname ‘Scott’ come from?
Our family has its roots in Scotland, and my ancestors include members of the McRae clan. I’ve been known as ‘Scott’ for many years now, and today it’s almost like a second name to me.
If you could visit one place in history, where would you go?
To Eilean Donan Castle back when it was the seat of the McRae clan. I’d love to get to know my ancestors, see what their daily lives were like, and find out if I’d have fitted in amongst them.
What do you get up to when you’re not on stage?
Filming is a great passion of mine. I love the atmosphere of a film in the making – that apparent chaos that goes hand in hand with filming. I’ve taken part in dozens of shoots and have unforgettable memories of working with various directors, actors and stunt performers. I firmly believe that, in time, there’ll be more experiences like these that’ll take me another step further.
What is it that most people don’t know about you?
Sailing is also a great passion of mine. Similar rules apply at sea and on stage – you have to be able to work as a team, keep your cool and be ready to react to unexpected situations.
What does Eliana mean to you?
Eliana is a place where all my interests – history, theatre, movement, fire and film – can come together naturally. What gives me the greatest joy is the moment when I see that the audience have been drawn into the story and, for a moment, have believed that they really are in a different era.
